I’m kicking off the new year with a pathos filled post. Apologies as we’ve only just crawled out of the COVID wreckage. However, I really feel the need to mark the end of the UK’s 47 years membership of the EU:(
Even though I’ve known for 4 years that this day would eventually come, but I still seem to be stuck in the Depression stage of psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’ 5 stages of grief:-
1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
Although, I do often find myself occasionally flitting back to stage 2 and not sure when, if ever, I’ll reach stage 5.
The UK’s final act of self-harm is complete, a crappy deal has been struck and the Royal assent has been given.
Adding insult to injury, the UK Parliament were only given a few hours on Wednesday to scrutinise and ratify this deal, which completely makes a mockery of the Leave campaign’s mantra of ‘taking back control.’
Anyway, let’s see how this all plays out in the years to come, but at this moment in time, I can’t see any tangible benefits of leaving the EU. Oh, I forgot, there is one thing....we can look forward to owning a new blue British passport that is made by a French-Dutch company and printed in Poland. Oh joy!
